At the beginning of 2023, Drake introduced Naomi Sharon as OVO Sound's latest signee.
While the Caribbean-Dutch singer would go on to release a three-song EP back in August, she only recently spoke about how she wound up at the label and how her time there has been so far.
In an interview with NME, Sharon explained her disbelief when she first found out Drake messaged her on Instagram.
"I didn't really believe it," Sharon told NME. "I took it seriously, but at the same time, like, 'Yeah we'll see.' I didn't realize that I was going to end up at OVO."
Drake asked her to send him music. At the time, she only had three songs out.
Sharon's debut album Obsidian is set to release on Oct. 20 and Sharon was surprised by how hands-off the label was during its development.
"They're very easy-going at OVO, they were like, 'Just make as many songs as you can and then we'll figure it out.' I was like, 'No, I need a goal,'" she explained. "I was planning to go to Toronto for three weeks to record a little bit, and I was already planning like, ‘They’re telling me not to go into album mode, but let’s do it. Let’s see if we can do an album in three weeks.’"
It's unclear as to whether all three songs from the Definition of Love EP will appear on Obsidian. Last week, Sharon dropped a live rendition of the title track from the EP.
Fellow OVO act Majid Jordan also enlisted Sharon for their new single "Waiting For You."
